Sorting Hat

The Sorting Hat is a hat endowed with the ability to think. Its job is to Sort students into one of the four Hogwarts Houses — Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin. It was originally Godric Gryffindor's hat, but when the four founders were trying to come up with a way to pick the students to go in their respective House after they were gone, he donated it to use.

Often, the Sorting Hat gives useful advice to the students in its pre-Sorting song.
