The Incom T-47 airspeeder, more commonly known as the snowspeeder, was a combat vehicle, modified by the Alliance from the basic airspeeder model. Alliance pilots used them in their defense of Echo Base on Hoth against invading Imperial forces in 3 ABY.

The snowspeeder itself was a modified civilian speeder. Extensive remodeling was needed to convert an unarmed passenger vehicle into a type of speeder that could function for extended periods in the extremely low atmospheric temperature of Hoth. In addition to cold environments, T-47s were modified by Alliance forces for use in a wide variety of areas, such as swamplands and deserts (being called swampspeeders and sandspeeders, respectively).

The craft was armed with dual laser cannons and a tow cable, and (like the original-model Y-wing), could be operated by two crewmen: one pilot, and one gunner. During the Battle of Hoth, the tow cable was used to great effect by the Rebel forces to tie up the massive AT-AT ground vehicles, causing them to crash to the ground, completely immobile and defenseless.
