Rodolphus Lestrange

Rodolophus Lestrange is the brother of Death Eater Rabastan Lestrange and husband of Bellatrix Lestrange. Rodolphus and Bellatrix are considered by Lord Voldemort to count among his most faithful and staunchest supporters.

Bellatrix and Rodolphus were responsible for torturing of Alice and Frank Longbottom to the point of madness when their son, Neville was only an infant. Like his wife, Rodolphus was captured and placed in Azkaban prison after Voldemort's initial downfall. He and Bellatrix were released from prison with the revolt of the Dementors in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Rodolphus participates in the battle at the Ministry of Magic toward the end of that book.

The name 'Lestrange' echoes the French phrase "l'etrange", literally "the strange one". In old French this would in fact have been written "l'estrange".
