Lavender Brown is a student at Hogwarts. She is in Harry Potter's year and is also sorted into Gryffindor House. At Hogwarts she becomes good friends with Parvati Patil and the two girls are often seen together and seem to share many of the same interests and character traits, including a keen interest in Divination as well as a fondness for the types of magical creatures such as unicorns that may be construed as more feminine.
Lavender is depicted as a somewhat silly and sentimental girl, which contrasts with the intelligent and practical Hermione Granger, which the books imply is the true object of Ron's affection. When Lavender and Ron Weasley begin seeing each other in sixth year, Lavender adopts the nick-name "Won-won" for Ron, gives him a chain with the word 'sweetheart' on it for Christmas, and presses Harry for details of Ron's feelings towards her. Even Lavender's best friend Parvati is dismayed at the obsessiveness with which Lavender throws herself into her relationship with Ron. Ron quickly becomes disenchanted with their relationship and even takes to feigning sleep when Lavender comes to visit him in the school sickroom. Ron is spared the difficult task of breaking up with Lavender when she calls it off first, convinced that there is something going on between Ron and Hermione.
After Harry announces the return of Lord Voldemort, Lavender (like Seamus Finnigan) initially thinks that Harry is lying, but does join Dumbledore's Army.
