Endor was the gas giant planet orbited by the Forest moon of Endor. The name Endor was also sometimes used for the forest moon. The Empire established the Sanctuary Pipeline to reach the moon quickly, importing raw materials for the Death Star II construction. One of the planet's moons was uninhabited until used by the New Republic for the relocation of the Ixlls whom were rescued from the destruction of Da Soocha V.

Behind the scenes
The planet Endor was never visible in any scenes in Return of the Jedi set on the Forest Moon's surface. The novelization claims that Endor was destroyed some time earlier, and that the moon now orbits its star in a planetary orbit of its own. On the other hand, some of the Battle of Endor scenes have a pinkish planet or moon in the background. This, coupled with the fact that a moon without a planet should itself be defined as a planet in its own right, has caused some fans to speculate that this is in fact the planet Endor.
A large body, probably the planet Endor, can be seen in the sky during some night scenes in the two Ewok telefilms (Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor.)
It is possible that Endor's name is a tribute to J.R.R. Tolkien; Endor was the Elvish name for Middle-earth. Endor is also the name of a Canaanite city in the Old Testament, which inspired the attribution of Biblical names such as Ibleam and Megiddo to other bodies in the Endor system.
