Description
Despite being temperate, habitable, and appearing safe at the first sight, the jungles of Dxun posed major challenge for everyone struggling to survive there. Due to its constant rains and wet climate, mechanisms did not last long and required continuous maintenance. Moreover, the jungles were inhabited by many dangerous predators, such as cannoks, bomas, maalraas, and zakkegs, which required the moon's inhabitants to always walk through them armed.
History
Early history
Thousands of years BBY, the atmospheres of Dxun and Onderon would connect during the summer season of the lunar year, allowing several species indigenous to Dxun to fly to Onderon and settle there, thus laying the foundations for the Beast Wars. Because of the dangerous creatures and unstable terrain, Jedi Master Arca Jeth decided to relocate the sarchophagus of Freedon Nadd, a former Dark Lord of the Sith who conquered Onderon, to Dxun, in an attempt to prevent future Sith Lords from drawing on its power. The plan worked, though two of history's most pivotal Dark Lords, Exar Kun and Darth Bane, managed to get to the tomb.
Mandalorian Wars
Dxun was where the former leader of the Mandalorians, Mandalore the Indomitable, had been killed at the end of the Great Sith War in 3,996 BBY. Mandalore the Ultimate, becoming the new leader of the Mandalorians, made Dxun his outpost that he would attack the Republic from.
In 3,963 BBY, the Mandalorian Wars began. The Republic managed to defeat the Mandalorians in two battles that took place on Dxun, one in the beginning and one in the end of the war, but the victories came at heavy cost. The Mandalorian outposts were well fortified with traps, walls, and the wild jungle itself; during the strike that allowed the Republic to finally take over the moon, the Jedi Exile had to sacrifice his soldiers, sending them in a suicidal charge to disable the minefield that was the last obstacle on the way to the Mandalorian fortress.
Moreover, the Republic taking control of Dxun did not change anything. The Republic military did not bother to demolish structures that remained from the Mandalorians; neither did they uncover hidden weaponry stashes, providently left in case the Mandalorians were to return. The final battle of the Mandalorian Wars, the Battle of Malachor V, was yet to be fought.
Onderon Civil War
In 3,956 BBY, Canderous Ordo took the title of Mandalore and gathered the remaining Mandalorians, most of which were mercenaries at the time, on the Dxun moon, in the rebuilt headquarters of the old Mandalore. There they regrouped, albeit concealing their presence from both the Republic and the native Onderonians, silencing all scouts who were to come close enough to their camp.
During the Onderon Civil War, the Mandalorians were at the Jedi Exile's side, despite—or probably because of— the fact that he had been in no small part responsible for their prior defeat at Malachor V. They provided the Exile with a shuttle to make trips to Iziz City on Onderon and, during the Second Battle of Onderon, helped his companions to reach the newly-discovered Tomb of Freedon Nadd—which turned out to be very close to the Mandalorian camp—and eliminate the presence of General Vaklu's Sith allies, sent by Sith Lord Darth Nihilus, in and around the tomb.
Later, during the Battle of Telos, Canderous and his Mandalorians helped the Jedi Exile destroy the former Republic capital ship Ravager, which had participated in the Battle of Malachor V and had been retrieved from the planet by Darth Nihilus himself.
New Sith Wars
Millennia later, in 1,000 BBY, the Sith Lord Darth Bane, fleeing the Seventh Battle of Ruusan, crash-landed on Dxun. It was here, in Freedon Nadd's tomb, where that Bane acquired orbalisk armor and formally decided on his plans for a reborn Sith Order.
