Dumbledore's Army, or the D.A., is a secret organisation started by Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley to teach students proper Defence Against the Dark Arts. This organisation was made necessary by the refusal of Dolores Umbridge, the Defence teacher in the fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, to teach anything in her classes other than theory.
The D.A., while mentioned, appeared to disband in the Half-Blood Prince, due to there no longer being a need for the organisation, as Dolores Umbridge had been replaced as the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher by Severus Snape.
