Deathgate Falls

From the Encyclopedia of Speculative Fiction - http://encyclopedia.wizards.pro

The mighty waterfall at one end of the Greymist Valley in the far north of Dragaera. It is the entry point into the Paths of the Dead.

This is the terminus (at least in the living world) of the Blood River. It is wreathed in the grey mist at the top, and the bottom is thick with the bones of those who have travelled over it.

Its height is unknown, since anyone venturing to its base is unable to return alive to the lands of the living. (While we know of a few exceptions to this, notably Zerika the Fourth, Vlad Taltos, Morrolan e'Drien and Aliera e'Kieron, none of them has been enough of an Athyra to bring along a measuring tape.) There is speculation that the height is actually not a measurable number, since the top and bottom are in different planes of existence.

Deathgate leads to the Paths of the Dead, where the Lords of Judgment wait to evaluate the souls of all Dragaerans who successfully find their way through the paths.

Though Deathgate is feared, it is better to reach the falls than not to, since only by reaching them can a Dragaeran hope to reach the Halls of Judgment and perhaps reincarnation.

Alternate spelling: Deathsgate Falls, in some of the earlier books.
