- "The Federation Army's also much larger than we thought, and much stronger. Your Highness, this is a battle I do not think we can win."
- — Captain Panaka to Queen Amidala
The Invasion or Battle(s) of Naboo (32 BBY) was the pre-Clone Wars conflict between forces of the Trade Federation that had forcibly occupied Naboo, and the planet's then-queen Padmé Amidala. The forces of the Naboo were aided by Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and the Gungan army. The Trade Federation was aided by the presence of the Sith, Darth Maul.

The Battle
The conflict began with the amassing of the Gungan Grand Army in the plains and fields 25 miles from the city of Theed. The Trade Federation considered the Gungans a weak force that could be wiped out quickly, and Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray - along with his advisors - obtained permission from Darth Sidious to begin deploying their forces. This conflict was influenced by the fact that Gunray had had trading disputes with Queen Amidala in the past, and was eager to meet the Gungan army in combat.
The Gungan Grand Army joined with Naboo security forces and fighter pilots in order to become more powerful. The Gungans, the Naboo exiles, and members of the Naboo resistance soon assembled in the fields with their leaders to plan the attack. The Gungan Grand Army was sent to distract the droid armies while the Naboo attacked from another direction in an attempt to retake the city. This was done in part to take the Trade Federation by surprise, as the Viceroy and his advisors believed that the battle would take place far outside the city. Meanwhile, a third force was sent to destroy the Droid Control Ship orbiting the planet in order to disrupt the commanding control of the droids.
The battle ended in victory for the Naboo people. Though Darth Maul slew Qui-Gon Jinn in a climactic confrontation, he was in turn killed by Qui-Gon's padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Trade Federation Control ship, meanwhile, was destroyed by young Anakin Skywalker, along with all of its crew. The Trade Federation and their deactivated droid army were then expelled from Naboo to face the judgment of the Galactic Republic Senate on Coruscant. Despite four trials in the Supreme Court charged with his invasion, Gunray still retained his title as Viceroy of the Trade Federation.
Events
The Battle of Naboo was in fact the general title of a series a smaller battles and events. The events included:
- Blockade of Naboo -- Trade Federation battleships, disguised as diplomatic vessels, form a bockade aroud the defenseless Naboo and wipe out the planet's emergency communication
- Siege of Theed -- Trade Federation forces landing in the vast woodland swamps of Naboo emerge from the forests and march into Theed with troops of battle droids and army tanks (AATs). The city is captured, but Queen Amidala and her protectors escape aboard her ship. Theed's governor Sio Bibble is left in captivity of the Trade Federation.
- Rebellion on Theed -- During their Queen's absence (and supposed death), Naboo freedom fighters revolt against the intruding Trade Federation, whose Viceroy had settled in the Royal Palace. While the initial rebellion failed, it did manage to temporarily drive occupying droid forces out of the swamps.
- Alliance with the Gungans -- Queen Amidala returns from Coruscant and realises she must take matters into her own hands. Landing her ship in the Naboo swamp, she forges an alliance with the amphibious Gungans, despite their poor past relations with the Theed government. Amidala persuades the Gungans to help fight off the Trade Federation, arguing that the Gungan underwater cities will eventually be captured if the Federation were to win. The Gungans agree and form their courageous military, the Gungan Grand Army.
- Swamp Invasion -- the Trade Federation Droid Army prepares to attack the underwater Gungan cities with their waterproof droidekas. They are diverted, however, when they received news of another rebellion breaking out in the swamps (which was in fact the queen and her personal guards making their way to the Palace).
- Gungan Plains Battle -- Gungan forces group their army on an open hilly field where Trade Federation MTTs dispatch thousands of battle droids. Gungan technology is primitive, and although their army is protected by a single enormous deflector shield dome, the droid army quickly breaks through, resulting in countless Gungan casualties. Very soon the Gungans are forced into submission.
- Palace Battle -- Since the Gungan Battle is actually a diversion to get droids to leave the city, the queen and her small force of invaders have a chance to recapture their besieged palace. With the help of her decoy Sabé and head of security Captain Panaka, Queen Amidala reaches the throne room and traps the Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray, thus taking back the city.
- Naboo Space Battle -- High above, Naboo starfighters initiate an assault on the droid ship Profiteer, and child pilot Anakin Skywalker destroys the ship's reactor, causing it to self-destruct. This causes the droid armies on the surface to completely deactivate. Naboo wins not only the battle but it's people also win back their home.
- Peace on Naboo -- the Gungan and human natives of Naboo have an enormous parade to celebrate newfound peace between the two Nabooan societies who were able to join forces and defeat the Trade Federation.
Other Info
During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems (including the Trade Federation) once again unsuccessfully threatens Naboo, thus starting the Defense of Naboo. Naboo was briefly invaded when the Empire assassinated Queen Apailana, but it is unknown whether Naboo saw any conflict during the Galactic Civil War or the Yuuzhan Vong invasion.
