The Battle

Towards the end of the Clone Wars, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine declared three planets, which served as Separatist bastions, a "triad of evil". These three, Felucia, Mygeeto and Saleucami, were singled out as prime targets whose fall would help end the conflict. Subsequently, a massive battle took place on Mygeeto, the frigid world of crystallized ice, which was a major holding of the InterGalactic Banking Clan.

Galactic Marines and Clone troopers, under the command of Jedi General Ki-Adi-Mundi, battled the Separatist droid armies in extended urban fighting amid the ultramodern towers of a major Mygeeto city. Elements of the 501st Legion fought in the final stages of the battle on Commander Bacara's recommendation, although Ki-Adi was wary due to their operation outside of his command.

The 501st, according to Ki-Adi, were sent to Mygeeto to destroy an energy collector. But actually, the troopers were seeking out an ancient Mygeetan crystal which was an experimental power source that the Chancellor required for a top-secret tributary laser-stream project codenamed "Hammertong" .

During a concentrated Republic push to rout the Separatists, fighting spread across the cities of Mygeeto. Ki-Adi-Mundi skillfully used his lightsaber to deflect enemy fire, whilst leading a force of Marines supported by UT-AT assault vehicles and other heavy walkers.

The battle intensified on a number of vast bridges, which stretched across a great chasm, linking several city districts. It was here that Ki-Adi-Mundi would fight his last battle.

The death of Ki-Adi-Mundi

General Mundi rallied his troops to attack the city when a silent buzzing vibration came from a compartment concealed within Clone Commander Bacara’s armor. The concealed compartment held a secure comlink which was frequency-locked to a channel reserved for the Commander-in-Chief. Commander Bacara withdrew the comlink and triggered it.

A holoscan appeared on the palm of his gauntlet, and a hooded Darth Sidious, Dark Lord of the Sith, remarked that it was time to execute Order 66. Bacara responded that it will be done. The holoscan vanished and Bacara snapped the comlink closed as he looked to the main plaza of the city where General Mundi led the charge.

Moments later, after Bacara gave the order, the clones stopped fighting. Confused, Ki-Adi-Mundi turned around and was blasted by clone fire: the surprised Jedi Master managed to kill several Marines before succumbing to his troops' fire.

The Outcome

After Mundi's death, the newly established Galactic Empire would go on to conquer the planet, claiming it on behalf of Palpatine, who had now taken on the title of Emperor. The Imperial war-machine would keep strict control in the turbulent times following the wars.
